Abstract: Bilevel images consist of a grid of square cells, with side T, which are colored either black or white depending on whether the center of the cell lies in this black or white region of the pre- image. The digitized boundary can be interpreted as a 4-directional chain code. Subpixel accuracy is considered in determining the edge or boundary of the pre-image, and a practical algorithm is given for its implementation. In particular, small curving objects digitized on a coarse grid are considered. Experimental results show a surprisingly high degree of reconstruction, allowing for the upward scaling or enlargement of small objects from their digitized representation.!
