The recent proliferation of deepwater pipelines has been aided by the understanding developed in the lastrntwo decades of the U-O-E manufacturing process related specifically to line pipe collapse resistance. Byrn2003, there will be several 24 to 28 inch diameter pipelines constructed in water depths exceedingrn2,000 m. Other projects planned for 3,500 m water depths are in the feasibility phase. Ultra-deepwaterrnprojects are rapidly accelerating towards the maximum water depth of 5,000 m in the Gulf of Mexico.rnTechnology development issues central to the long-term feasible design of future ultra-deepwaterrnpipelines are identifiable, and offer potential cost savings for deepwater pipelines being designed today.
