Operators of three remote small Deepwater gas developments in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico havernworked together to capture synergies by sharing infrastructure on a joint development, whichrnminimizes capex, opex and significantly improves each field's economics. The three fields -rnAconcagua, Camden Hills and King's Peak - each constitute some of the deepest subsea gasrndevelopments in the world with water depths up to 7,200 feet (2,195m). All the fields containrnbiogenic gas, which is 99% methane. First gas is planned in 2002 with production from the threernfields reaching 500 mmscfd.rnThe paper will discuss the commercial, contractual and technical challenges, development plansrnand the high-level execution philosophy. The commercial challenges included negotiation of arnProcess Handling Agreement (PHA), transportation agreements and development of OperatingrnPrinciples for the common infrastructure.rnTechnical challenges included flow assurance, subsea wet gas metering, and configuration of therncontrol system. The fields are tied back 47 miles to the Elf operated Virgo platform with dual 12"rndiameter un-insulated flowlines, which are arranged in a piggable loop. Multiple horizons arerncontrolled by intelligent well technology to control zonal flow, maximize recovery and minimizernfuture rig interventions. The combined expertise of the Operators was leveraged to capturernsynergies and to significantly simplify the subsea layout. Development of enabling technology inrnthe form of an accurate and reliable subsea wet gas flowmeter and subsequent approval by thernRegulatory Authorities is required to allow all three fields to produce into the commonrninfrastructure.rnA joint venture company called Canyon Express, to be operated by Elf Exploration Inc. (arnsubsidiary of TotalFina Elf), was formed to own the common infrastructure that includes thernflowlines, umbilicals and topsides control systems.
