Thernsuccessful installation of this facility inrn4850 feet (1480 meters) is included as anrnillustration of achievement in DeepwaterrnOperations. This project benefited fromrnthe debut of new technology in the formrnof the combination of Heavy Lift andrnPipelay capability on a dynamicallyrnpositioned vessel, plus the newrngeneration of Remote Operated Vehiclern(ROV) all of which play a key role in thernexecution of Deepwater projects.rnThe upgrading of Marine and SubsearnEquipment for the Gazprom Blue StreamrnProject will be described.rnThis project provides the greatestrnchallenge to pipelaying technology, thusrnfar. With a water depth of 7050 feet itrncan be classed within the UltrarnDeepwater range and is currently therndeepest pipeline project to be awarded.rnMany of the challenges of future UltrarnDeepwater Developments currentlyrnunder evaluation in areas such as Gulf ofrnMexico, will be faced in the Blue StreamrnProject and in particular, during thernlaying and trenching of pipelines onrnescarpments.rnThe paper will conclude with an outlookrnto installations beyond 7000 feet waterrndepth where the present knownrnboundaries of technology will berntabulated together with identification ofrnthe ihgapsli and the potential to bridgernthose gaps.rnIt should be noted that all references torntons are in tons of 2000 lbs.
