An overview of vehicle emissions, ambient concentrations, and atmospheric chemistry of NO, NO_2, and N_2O is presented. We start with a discussion of air quality standards and trends in NO_2 levels. We then discuss the formation of nitrogen oxides in vehicle engines, technologies used to control emissions of nitrogen oxides, and the trends in vehicle emissions.
