The possibility to use two-axis gyro rate sensor (GRS) inrnprinciple for measurement of trajectory parameters is shown.,rnin the present report. The angular momentum vector of thisrnsensor is oriented along the longitudinal axis of the boreholerndevice. The errors and limits of this scheme utilization arerndefined, when operating in gyrocompassing mode. A methodrnof utilization of the scheme with a longitudial gyro is originalrnfor two operation modes (gyrocompassing and analyticalrndirectional gyro) near the line West-East. The errors intrinsicrnto such a combined operation mode are analyzed.rnIn order to eliminate the restrictions typical forrninclinometer with a longitudinal gyro, it was proposed tornarrange GRS with angular momentum in the cross-sectionrnplane of the borehole. And with this, a method of inclinometerrnutilization was develop, which permits not only to solve thern“accuracy loss zone” problem but also to eliminate effect ofrnthe gyro drift changeability caused both by its utilizationrnperiod and the gyro start-up errors.rnFor the first time calibration of the gyro during operation isrnproposed by slewing the gyro housing about two multuallyrnperpendicular axes: the main sensor axis and the boringrncolumn axis. Algorithms on multiposition gyrocompassing ofrnsuch a single-gyro system are proposed and analyzed.rnExperimental results confirming the main conclusions ofrnthe teoretical investigations are presented.
