摘要

This article describes studies of the micro-structure of sheared colloidal dispersions and how the results can be related to computer simulations. Particular emphasis is made of light scattering and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments and the comparison with Brownian dynamics simulations. The importance of measurements in all three directions of a flow field is demonstrated. Experimental constraints and prospects for new advances are mentioned. The need for the hydrodynamic interactions between particles to be taken into account when modelling colloidal dispersions is also demonstrated.
