With an ever increasing drive to find oil the requirements for high pressure reservoir maintenance has been steadily rising with up to 600 bar required for continuous well fracturing and injection. A single pump solution for this application has been developed with the key objectives of achieving: - 1. A high level of safety requiring centrifugal pump technology to be developed to a standard exceeding that currently available in the market place. 2. A high through life efficiency. 3. An expected service life of 25 years. 4. A pump design suitable for continuous operation at pressures up to 600 bar, compatible with both seawater and produced water injection. With its long history of designing engineering solutions to fluid pumping problems, a Weir pump design was developed from solid proven fundamentals for the required application rather than adopting a stretch approach to an existing design. Basic hydraulic and mechanical design fundamentals were therefore established for the envisaged operating range and duty requirements. This paper discusses the pump selected together with the process and methodology followed to arrive at the final solution.
