When a rotating bar has to rotate or to oscillate about a finite but unusable center of rotation, a Watt-II linkage mechanism has to be build containing two or sometimes five linkage parallelograms. The number of parallelograms depends on the size of the rotation-angle. When the angle surpasses 120°, the six-bar has to be made overconstrained through an additional turning--joint leading to even three additional linkage parallelograms. Other solutions without linkage parallelograms have been devised based on four-bars producing a coupler curve approximating part of a circle. An exact but completely different solution is to be found utilizing a generalized focal mechanism also having a bar oscillating or rotating about a fictitious center.
