Fretting fatigue behaviors of 66Co-28Cr-6Mo (in mass%) alloy in air were studied with an emphasis on the effect of contact pressure. Fretting fatigue strength at a contact pressure of 300 MPa at 10~8 cycles was 90 MPa, approximately a half of plain fatigue strength. The contact pressure dependence of fretting fatigue life at a stress amplitude of 180 MPa was studied at contact pressures below 300 MPa. With an increase in contact pressure, Fretting fatigue life decreased sharply at low contact pressures. However, it remained almost unchanged at high contact pressures although frictional stress amplitude increased.
