To avoid gas explosions and metallic droplets deposition in pipes, steelmakers use now a post combustion chamber, also called drop out box.rnThis paper explains:rn1. the emission mechanisms of gas, organic and dust,rn2. the results obtained by existing post combustion chamber in term of explosion risk elimination, coarse dust removal and organic destruction.rnSeeing that these performances are insufficient and that the technology transfer between hazardous waste incineration and E.A.F. can lead to a dramatic increasing of environmental control cost, LECES is developing a new post combustion chamber:rn3. in which the heating of fume up to 750℃ or 950℃ is realized in a very short volume,rn4. where the residence time needed to destroy organic is shorter than 2 seconds,rn5. where the recyclable coarse dusts, representing 20% of the whole dust emission, are removed with an efficiency higher than 80%.
