摘要

The application of petinases and clelulases dramatically imorved cotton water avbsorbency.Microscopy observations,stainign tests,water abosrbency tests,fiber weight loss analysi and nit5rogen ocntent anauysis wer ocnducted on raw cototn,and chemcially and biochemically treated cotton to both qualitatively and quantitatively detemine thre nature of changes in the surfaces of cotton casusd by the enzymatic treatments.Te cotton surface structue wasd modifed by diegestion fo the pectins in cotton utilce and th amorphous primary wall cellulosse under the cuticle.The destruction of he hydrophobic cotton cutilce undr mild enzymetic treatemnt conditions occurs ismulataneously wiht acehievement of adequate water absorbency of the occton.More severe enzymatic treatments comploetely remove the cuticle form the cotton fiber surfaces.
