Laser Doppler measurements were conducted in a turbulent wall jet which involves a recirculation zone due to the presence of a backward facing step. The initial development of the wall jet was controlled and results were compared to earlier measurements. Great attention was paid to the separation and reattachment processes and the influence of the inflow configuration on these. Reynolds stress u′v′ and intermittency factor (derived from flatness factor) were determined in order to get some idea of the flow structure and interaction process downstream of the step. It was found that by diffusion the turbulence in the external region definitely interacts with the near-wall turbulent structures in separating and reattaching flows.
