Experiments were performed on a simulator to observe and measure the balance recovery attempt of standing volunteers after perturbations of their supporting surface. The main particularities of these experiments are the type of perturbation profiles (representative of real deceleration encountered in public transport), and the use of holding devices. The two main goals are: (1) to understand the volunteers' strategies in restoring their equilibrium with respect to the configuration. (2) to get information about the volunteers' feeling concerning both the level of perturbation and the holding devices.
