The Pergo group is a major manufacturer of laminate flooring. One major goal is to design attractive products for the contractor market. A general model of Kansei Engineering was used for evaluating subjective impressions of laminate flooring. The results showed that such flooring can be described with four basic semantic descriptions and seven main properties. It could also be seen that craftsmen and architects had different impressions of laminate flooring. It was concluded that laminate flooring sometimes is perceived as inferior natural flooring material despite the fact that many of its properties objectively are superior. Hence, selective marketing may improve its image.
