摘要

An estimation of swell wave energy fluxes is presentedbased on remote sensing data. The energy flux being theproduct of wave energy density and group velocity isestimated based on information about local wave height,wavelength and period. Wave parameters aredetermined from TerraSAR-X high resolution radarimages using the newly developed empirical algorithmXWAVE-2. An analysis of the spatial variation ofrelevant variables is presented for selected areas alongthe south coast of Java island (Indonesia). Wavelengthreduction of shoaling waves moreover yields estimatesof the local bathymetry. An examination of sea stateparameters in combination with the derived localunderwater topography permits the identification of thebest-suited locations for wave power plants. Theinformation is a valuable constituent in the site selectionprocess for ocean renewable energy facilities as part ofthe bilateral Indonesian-German project Science for theProtection of Indonesian Coastal Marine Ecosystems(SPICE).
