Lambert2005 Map Projection System Last year Lambert2005 was officially adopted as the national map projection (details in last year's report). Until now only a part of the user community has started to use it. The Flemish Agency for Geographical Information Flanders (AGIV) and IncGeo vzw are working on a report on the impact of the new national coordinate reference system. This new map projection for Belgium is based on the European Terrestrial Reference System (ETRS89) and offers a higher accuracy for GPS-based terrestrial measurements compared to the existing 'Lambert 1972'-system(Hayford 1924). The Belgian National Geographical Institute (NGI) has decided the Lambert 1972-system to remain an official coordinate system, next to the new Lambert 2005-system (at least during the transition period).
