摘要

Injection molded articles (e.g. bottle crates, grocery boxes or other stackable containers), predominantly made from HDPE or PP face very often the problem of warping. Measurement methods to determine warpage will be discussed based on ISO standards and experiences of the author. More time will be spent discussing the different molded part lengths and widths and their importance in determining warping behavior. The best measurements to measure and determine the warping factor IF (internal factor) will be presented. Furthermore, this presentation discusses the common causes of warpage, not only limited to pigmentary causes, and how pigments can contribute to the warping behavior. This will be shown based on pictures of non-warping and warping parts. In the next section, the paper deals with measures to reduce or eliminate warping behavior and more precisely, nucleating behavior of organic pigments, as available in the public literature. Examples will be discussed based on various organic pigments. It shows way to minimize or eliminate this problem. The last section shows commercial products of low-warping or non-warping pigments available on the market. Their applications and available color space will be presented and the warping results discussed, even at various concentrations.
