In a comparative study of different types of inorganic mid IR absorbers for agricultural films the following performance parameter were used to evaluate the service efficiency: 1. IR absorbency (thermicity) as function of IR absorber type, concentration and film thickness. 2. Transparency in the visible range (%). 3. Visible light scattering (haze, %). 4. Weathering resistance under accelerated conditions (QUV exposure). The study main findings indicate that the overall film service efficiency is affected not only by the absorber type, but also by particle size and presence of available iron contamination. The efficiency was higher with smaller size particles and was diminished by the presence of mineral impurities. Another observation relates to an interaction between the organic additives and the mineral ones. When the two were present the expected migration of the organic absorbers occurred at a lower pace.
