High performance inorganic pigments, also known as complex inorganic colored pigments (CICP), or mixed metal oxide (MMO) pigments, are an extraordinary class of transition metal oxide materials that offer stable, long-lived color for a multitude of applications. Plastics applications and polymer processing conditions have become more demanding, leading to the need for more durable pigments. Inorganic oxides, in particular, high performance inorganic pigments formed through high temperature ( > 800 ℃) solid state reactions, provide an excellent solution. They have high temperature stability, are chemically inert, insoluble, and resistant to bleeding or migration. They are generally opaque, lightfast, and weather well. However in some applications, there are limitations to their use. Modifications to these pigments have been made to enable these pigments to perform and to enhance productivity in polymer processing for applications such as fibers. These pigments perform exceptionally well in evaluations designed to mimic standard processing. The evaluation methodology and results are included.
