The Oxford Brookes MSc in International Management recruits over sixty students from more than twenty countries. Teaching experience suggests that many of these students have difficulty moving from a predominantly descriptive approach to a critical one. The paper reports on a piece of action research on the Research Methods course in which a teaching framework was developed. It focuses on supporting learning to think critically and on enabling students to develop a critical approach using textual de-construction and mind-mapping as key tools in an experiential learning process.
