摘要

The existing MDL method for wavelet denoising is ex-rntended with a soft thresholding approach. We assume that thernwavelet coefficients are comprised of an informative part andrna noise part. We propose a soft thresholding method basedrnon the earlierMDL hard thresholding approach equivalent tornfitting two Gaussian density functions to the wavelet coeffi-rncients, one for the informative part in the data and the otherrnfor noise. Our approach is data-dependent and since it isrncompletely characterized by the properties of the MDL hardrnthresholding solution, it does not require any additional pa-rnrameters to be estimated. We show that our method improvesrnthe results of the existing MDL denoising method for bothrnartificial and natural test signals.
