In this work we apply spectral analysis techniques ofbivariate stationary point processes for the estimation of thecross-correlation (CC). This is used for the study of acomponent of the neurophysiological system called musclespindle. We are interested in the effect of different stimuli tothe function of the muscle spindle by recording the responsefrom the Ia sensory axon transferred to the spinal cord. Theestimate of the cross-correlation, a measure of theassociation between the input and the output of the musclespindle, is obtained using the periodogram statistic which isa function of the frequency domain. It is shown that theasymptotic distribution of the estimator is Normal. Thusapproximate 95% pointwise confidence intervals for theestimates of the modified CC can be computed which show ifthe behaviour of the system is excitatory and/or inhibitory.
