In this paper the design, simulation and fabrication of a microturbine is discussed. This work follows the work carried out on this subject by Flockhart et al. a few years ago. Two different rotor profiles are being simulated in order to determine the effect of their configuration in their output characteristics. A finite element model for both rotor configurations is built using ANSYS/FLOTRAN in order to derive torque profiles; the microturbine and its cavity is then built using the UV-LIGA process. Two arc-shaped steps are also included on the stator surface in order to levitate the rotor in order to reduce friction losses and damages to it.
