Nowadays, all the industries want to manage themselves by short term results. Given the international crisis by the end of last year they have begun to demand all their departments' immediate results with the purpose of reaching certain objectives that allow them to survive the crisis, among which we have the Maintenance Department. But what has Maintenance really to do to reach these objectives? We have urgently to change the pattern with which we measure the Maintenance Department's performance of a plant, installation, infrastructure and/or service. It is necessary to modernize our vision of Maintenance, that's why we need to evolve of a current model based on cost centers to a model of asset management based on reliability with which you can measure the maintenance contribution to the profit of the companies. In this presentation we offer you a meditation about the big change that we should make in the maintenance management, to evolve toward an asset management model where the Maintenance organization drives company's results based on reliability. A financial model will be presented where you can appreciate the contribution to the business that an asset management system based on reliability can offer. In this one the different Directions, especially the Top Management and the Financial Manager, will be able to appreciate with clarity the aforementioned contribution, because asset management indicators are shown as the overall Equipment effectiveness, reliability, sustainability and availability and their influence in the economic indicators as ROE, ROFA and EVA among others.
