Ecological characteristics of biological invasion were reviewed and discussed in this paper, covering the ecology of introduction, colonization, naturalization, spread and irruption of invasive species. Introduction of exotic pests may be realized through different ways including animal migration, air current and storm, variety introduction, trading, tourism, and even war. Successful colonization and establishment were significantly affected by the invisibility of invaded ecosystem and the invasion potential of invading species. After accommodating and adjusting to the climate and food resource in the new place, invasive species would change their requirements or the tolerant limits to the ecological factors and acclimatize themselves to the new environment. Dispersal of invasive species is the means by which new or depopulated areas are colonized and e-quilibrium diversity is established. The effect of dispersal on a population depends first on the status of the growth form of the population and the second on the presence or absence of barriers, and the vagility. The irruption of population is not a sudden event but the result of population developing process. It comes from a basic population number or a starting density from which population increased in its intrinsic rate. Favorable ecological environment is the prerequisite condition for the realization of intrinsic increase of population. The diversity and complexity of habitat ecosystem is also closely related to the outbreak of population.
