Among methods used in the separation and fractionation of biologically active compounds, in particular proteins, one of the leading positions is still occupied by ion exchange chromatorgraphy.~1 Experimental experience acquired during many years of application of the method in biotechnology allows us to predict optimum conditions of the separation of components of complex biological mixtures and to choose ion exchange supports possessing properties required for the purpose. However, in spite of the success achieved, there is a number of problems due to the slow kinetics of sorption and incomplete desorption of compounds sorbed from polymer supports. Solutions to these problems, and the overal effectiveness of the chromatography, depend predominantly on properties of the support, and this is why the search for new sorbents with improved chromatographic characteristics has to be continued.~2
