Using previously reported methods several cerium(IV) phosphates (CePs) were prepared. On the basis of elemental analysis, PXRD, TGA, IR and amine uptake, we conclude that for those phosphates for which P/Ce approx 2 there are at least two layered structures, neither of which is isostructural with the wel-known alpha - or gamma - M(IV) phosphate structures. A structure with P/Ceapprox1.5 also appears to be layered. Powder X-ray measurements minitoring amine uptake by the phosphates are also reported.
