Effects of ultrasonication on the anodic fluorination of ethyl α-phenylthioacetate (1) and 4-thiazolidinone derivatives (4) in Et_3N-3HF ionic liquid were investigated in detail. It was found that ultrasonication greatly promoted mass transfer of the substrate 1, which resulted in marked increase of the yield and selectivity of the corresponding a-monofluorinated and α,α-difluorinated products depending on the electricity passed. Furthermore, ultrasonication changed the streoselectivity of the anodic fluorination of 4.
