The metal/electrolyte reduced phases generally of stoichiometry (Pt_2~-, 2M~+, X~-) cathodically formed at the platinum interface in the presence of electrolyte MX, may unexpectedly react with π-acceptors. Such an immobilization of aromatic ketones and their reduced forms has been shown by coulometry and EQCM analysis and the stoichiometry of transients under electrolysis was determined. This temporary immobilization at the platinum interface of reduced forms of aromatic ketones could be seen as an encapsulation and then orientate coupling regioselectivity.
