The performance of iron and manganese removal from the raw water at Mae Koung water treatment plant was investigated. Two laboratory models were operated at different ORPs of 400, 500, 600 and 700 mV from August 2004 to April 2005. The water treatment process comprised preozonation- coagulation- sedimentation- filtration- and postchlorination. These experimental units were equipped with an automatic ORP controller and operated for 24 hours continuously, with a capacity of 0.5 cubic meters per hour. The results illustrated that the optimum ORP was in the range of 450-550 mV. At this condition, the first order prevailed in both iron and manganese removal reactions. The reaction rate constants of these iron and manganese removal reactions were equal to 1.26 and 0.95 per min, respectively.
