This paper presents an Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) system which is developed on a UNIX workstation and oriented to distributed environments. The authors transported the OPAC database of the University Library of ULIS from the mainframe to the UNIX workstation. The retrieval software is configured based on the client-server model for distributed environments. It has the graphical user interface that affords better interactive environments than character-based interface. This paper also shows performance evaluation of the OPAC system. The authors have found that the performance of the OPAC system on distributed environment is fairly good. The OPAC system is open to our university students and staffs.
