摘要

It has been more than thirty seven years since JICST was established in August 1957 as a. central organization in Japan for science and technology information (STI) service activity.rnBy 320 permanent staff and 17 billion yen of the budget for FY1993 JICST carries on the total STI service in information circulation flow i.e. Online Information, Publication, Document Delivery, Translation, Investigation and some other Services. Six kinds of databases are constructed and loaded on JICST Online Information System(JOIS).rnJICST File has accumulated 8.6 million citations and about 0.7 million citations are annually prepared to be added to it by 100 information specialists in JICST and more than 3,000 out side collabortors in abstracting and indexing using the source materials such as 17,000 periodicals from some 50 nations, more than 5,000 public reports from Japanese government research institutes, etc. The Machine Aided Translation System developed by JICST is actually used to construct JICST-E File (English database of Japanese orginated information). JICST is a service center of STN International in Japan and also provides 7 factual databases, such as Mass Spectral, DNA, Thermophysical and thermochemlcal property, Chemical dictionary databases through JOIS-F System. International cooperation and R & D are indispensable to develop new technology and products for more advanced and effective services in cooperation with a highly advanced informationrnsocieties in Japan and abroad.
