摘要

Navigation through cells references becomes a main feature in GISs (geographic information systems), and the geographical meaning among cells is not negligible. It is hard for traditional approache, for instances LRU, to cover all of such access patterns efficiently. To address this problem, we provide a new buffer allocation strategy KNC-D (Keep Nearer Cells by Distance) to take the reference information between cells in a GIS into consideration. For utilizing the reference information, we introduce a concept of "distance" between the cells which can be used as a measurement to deal with the issues of buffer allocation strategy. Based on the distance from the cell currently accessed to the other cells, KNC-D is able to keep a group of related cells together, and swap out those objects which are "far" from the cell being accessed currently. The simulation shows the efficiency of KNC-D in GIS accesses, comparing with other buffering strategies, based on several kinds of traversal access patterns.
