Small-scale lab tests for auto parts simulate fires from small-scale ignition sources such as cigarettes and matches. The furniture industry uses more severe small-scale lab tests such as vertical and cigarette smoldering tests. The British crib test and the California 133 mock-up test are still more severe. With the increasing complexity of automotive seating with power heaters and occupant sensors that may malfunction and act as ignition sources, the existing small scale tests may need to be revised. Our data will include information on the current and possible future small-scale tests and real life auto interior fires.
