Cutting force regulation in high-speed CNC machining of corner zones

In CNC corner milling operations (1st and 2nd quadrant corners), the contact profile of the cutting zone changes sharply with consequential changes in the variations in the cutting conditions. This is particularly undesirable in high-speed machining applications where changes in the cutting environment can affect the quality of the product and may result in adverse wear or damage to the cutter. Two alternative machining strategies have been compared and their respective efficiencies determined to maintain constant cutting conditions through the corner zones. This paper presents the results of the machining trials to establish the validity of the cutting force models.
