摘要

A new method to clean clogged chips from grinding wheel surfaces using Nd:YAG laser is presented in this paper. The wheel laser cleaning method was studied with both stationary and rotating wheels. Effective cleaning can be achieved by the selection of adequate laser power intensity, pulse length and focus offset. High power laser irradiance and short irradiation duration are essential for effective wheel cleaning. Fusion and evaporation of clogged chips play an important role in the laser cleaning grinding wheel process. Heat accumulation may be a problem, which can be solved by introducing intermittent laser irradiation.
