The instrument used in the experiments is briefly described. It is a laboratory built laser microprobe time-of-flight mass spectrometer, which works both in linear mode and reflectron mode with resolution of 650 and 1350. A frequency doubled, trippled and quadrupled Nd:YAG laser is used, which provides wavelength of 266, 355, 553 and 1064 nm for selection. The laser beam is focused to a diameter of 10 or 100 um with coaxial viewing system. A sensitivity of subpicomole level is generally obtained.
