In the alleged displacement-based method proposed earlier by the same authors of this paper, a circle has been used to interpolate the central axis of an arch-like lining segment at a tunnel under construction. It is obvious that different types of interpolated curves will give different values of arc length and radius of curvature of the segment. This paper continues the study by making comparison upon four curves: circle, parabola, hyperbola and cosine curve. First of all, derived out are formulae to calculate the arc length and the radius of curvature of the central axis of the lining. Then, the influences of curves on changes in the arc length and the radius of curvature are probed. Thirdly, the effect of curves on reliability index is investigated through three case studies. Finally, the adaptability of the four curves is observed. The results show that parabola is the most suitable one for the displacement-based method, following with cosine curve being the second and then circle the third, while hyperbola is unfit for the method.
