摘要

During the next ten years, the Navy will build a Fleet that will serve the Navy's needs for the next 30 years. New platforms such as the DD-21 and CVNX have mandated goals to reduce operational cost by 66% and 50% respectively. If DD-21 crew sizes are to shrink to 95 sailors from 376 for DDG-51 class ships, new calibration and maintenance technologies must be demonstrated prior to procurement. Calibration and maintenance technologies, which will be key in achieving DD-21 and CVNX reduced maintenance and manning goals, are described in the "Built In Calibration for Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems Sensors (BIC MEMS), the Joint Automated Maintenance Environment (JAME)," and the "Generalized Maintainer" proposals. Progress toward those initiatives will be outlined along with the impact of transitioning this technology to the fleet.
