This study investigated the characteristics of simultaneous sulfur and metal capture by calcined limestone during fluidized bed coal combustion. Experimental results on seven coal samples have indicated that the capture process can be effective. Good fluidization, however, is essential in achieving the optimum capture efficiency which was observed to range from 93 percent to 15 percent in the order of cadmium, sulfur, lead, chromium, arsenic; and selenium. Also reported are capture mechanism, effect of metal concentration in coal, and effect of bed temperature.
