摘要

Structure and chemical bonds involving nitrogen in oxynitride glasses have been discussed based on the results of neutron diffraction, NMR spectroscopy and molecular orbital calculation. It has been shown that nitrogen atoms bonded with three silicon atoms exist in oxynitride glasses. It has also been shown that the bending optential of Si-N(Si)-Si angle very sharply rises with inccreasing angle, indicating that the bending is very difficult. It has been discussed that this is the reason for the marked increase in elastic moduli on incorporation of nitrogen in silicate and other oxide glasses.
