xLi_2O-(15-x)Na_2O-15B_2O3-70SiO_2 system gels were prepared by sol-gel process using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), boric acid, sodium nitrate, lithium carbonate as raw materials. The structure changes of the gels to glass formation at different stages of heat treatment were studied by FTIR spectra, DTA, XRD and SEM. As the heat treatment temperature increased, Si-OH and Si-OC_2H_5 groups decreased and disappeared, Si-O-B and B-O bonds gradually formed. The intensity of these peaks at 672, 830 cm~(-1) had a maximum at 400℃. The effects of Na~+ and Li~+ ions on the coodination number of boron during heat treatment were discussed.
