Estimation of unknown and/or uncertain boundary conditions encountered in thermal problems of continuous casting is considered in the paper. The boundary quantities are retrieved applying inverse techniques simultane-ously making use of temperature measurements at selected interior locations. Such approach requires tow step procedure. The first step is to solve a direct problem, or rather to derive the direct relationship between unknown boundary conditions and known temperatures at inteior locations, while the second one is to stabilize the results of inverse caluclations (inverse problems are usually ill-posed). The method used for solving a direct problem is the Boundary Element Method. To stabilize the results of the inverse analysis the least squares approach. combined with sensitivity coefficients, is used.
