Dispersion of a neutral tracer above a urban area in Grenoble (France) is studied with a large eddy simulation (LES) of atmospheric flows under conditions of steady wind. The complex terrain with surrounding mountains is taken into account with a computational domain whose extension is 23Km x 25Km x 15Km. The tracer is emitted from a non-buoyant point source and transported by a quasi steady wind coming from north west direction. The results are compared with data obtained from an experiment with a three hours steady release of SF_6 on June 15th, 1995. A good agreement is observed for tracer dilution when comparing calculated and observed values of CTA (Atmospheric Transfer Coefficient). Results from a dispersion model based on a gaussian formulation are also plotted versus results from the measurements. For these meteorological conditions, the orography of the site is clearly the predominant factor in the dispersion process.
