The experimental analysis of the forming of a thermoplastic composite has shown the existence of porosities induced by the process and the importance of the re-consolidation phase. To simulate this compaction stage a shell element with pinching is presented. This element has a degree of freedom in the thickness and give the stress and strain through-the-thickness. The computation gives compressive through-the-thickness stresses in the zones where the experiments have shown that the laminate is consolidated; for instance, in the curved parts during the forming stage. The practical efficiency of the approach depends on the compaction constitutive relation that will have now to be investigated.
