Magnetic properties are very sensitive to stresses and especially to compression in the case of Fe-3%Si alloys. The proposed analysis is a very simplified one, but it exhibits a possible mechanism, which creates long range small residual stresses. Such stresses could explain why in some cases, accounting only for plasticity does not allow to accurately model the degradation of the magnetic properties of punched electrical steels. More experimental analyses are underway to more qualitatively confirm these effects.
