The three-dimensional flow field of the axial fan rotor is acquired using a PDA system (Particle Doppler Anemometer, DANTEC Measurement Technology). The detailed flow field measurements are taken at 15 axial locations upstream, inside and downstream of the rotor with a tip clearance. In the radial direction, the measurements are focused on the tip region between the 90% of the blade span and the casing wall. The measurement result is presented by plots of three dimensional streamlines, velocity vectors and velocity contours. The following phenomenon is clearly investigated in the experiment. In the tip region of the rotor, the tip leakage flow induced by the pressure difference between the suction and pressure sides of the blade is further complicated by the rotation of the blade. The axially reversed flow in the tip region is originated from the tip leakage flow, which reduces the overall mass transport and increases the blockage in the blade passage. More available flow phenomenon will be present in the paper.
