On the basis of the previous study, some discussion about the phase separation inside a rotodynamic multiphase pump and the effects of the phase separation are presented. The characteristic of multiphase flow inside the impeller of axial and radial pumps are analyzed and compared. Based on the theoretical analysis, the design experiences and the hydraulic performance tests of the first and the second prototypes of helico-axial multiphase pump designed and built by Petroleum University (Beijing), China, a method to directly design the impeller/diffuser has been organized. Selection principles and extents of the main design parameters are discussed. Accordingly, some examples designed by the proposed method are given. The flow angles difference along each boosting cell in a multistage helico-axial multiphase pump are calculated, analyzed and presented.
