Making composite ground is one of methods to reinforce soft soil ground Design method based only on the bearing capacity demanded to composite ground is usually used to reinforce soft soil ground with equal thickness. If soft soil ground with variable thickness is reinforced with above method, unequal settlement deformation of composite ground will occur. In this paper, a new design method based both on the bearing capacity and unequal settlement deformation was put forward. The formula of computing area permuting ratio and deformation of composite ground was deduced. It shows that settlement deformation of the composite ground formed based on old method increases linearly with thickness of the soft soil ground, but that of the composite ground formed according to new method is constant. When new method was applied to reinforce a filling soft soil ground, deformation measured on the composite ground corresponds with that calculated with formula.
